"Do a job you love and never work another day in your life"
I’m a ‘Potter’ and proud.
I have lived in Stoke-on-Trent most of my life. I started my working life off in the ‘pots’ at Carlton Ware as a YTS Paintress then moved to Mintons, Royal Doulton as a ceramic artist and prestige gilder. I loved every second of my job, working away to produce some of the finest and most expensive china in the world.
The sad demise of the pottery industry was the gain of the personal training world and I became a personal trainer in 2006 and started my own PT business. Personal training spiked my interest in the human body and how the energy systems can be manipulated to get results. I’ve lost count of how many clients I got to meet over the years, but it was an honour to work with such lovely people and to be able to give them the tools to help transform their lives.
I’m an outdoors girl and always have been. I like nothing more than walking around with my bare feet touching the energy of the Earth, much to my husband’s annoyance, he constantly throws my flip-flops at me. I find being outdoors the most healing of places, whether it’s riding my mountain bike in the woods or climbing a mountain, I just love it and that’s where you will usually find me if I’m not on my mat.
I’d like to say that I came to yoga under the influence of some great calling, but initially I didn’t. In fact, one of the first lessons I attended, I went with a friend and we didn’t make it half way through. I can remember vividly both of us coming into a wide-leg forward bend and looking directly at each other through our legs and bursting into hysterical laughter. Needless to say, it was a very serious yoga class and we had to leave.
I’ve been a yogi for over 30years and in that time I’ve sampled many different styles, each style has taught me something different and moulded me into the yoga teacher I am today. If I had to describe a class to you then I would say that my classes are relaxed, you can talk, you can laugh. My classes are creative, you will always be offered an alternative if you are struggling with a pose, no one gets left out. The classes are fun and are structured in a way so that you can settle into the moment, followed by recognising the body and the breath. From the breathing exercise we flow into gently warming up the body and then into the main movement phase. The final part involves a cool down section and then a lovely 10-20min relaxation where you can wrap yourself up, cover up your eyes and snuggle down for some serious ‘you time’.
